What do these three things have in common

 

 



I do not use Aqua Net, but I did have a relative who did for many many years - and I remember the hairspray.  So, when I bought some or saw some used by someone, I smiled, remembering my relative using it and remembering the can/spray.


As a kid, I ate graham crackers - I'd sit and watch TV and have 2-3 crackers.  I remember.  

That's not what they have in common though.  

That can of Aqua Net is now smaller in size than it was 6-10 months ago.  That box of Graham Crackers is now slightly more narrow than it was a few years ago.  That package of Oreos is now more square and less rectangular than it was (hence, less cookies).

The Aunt Jemima story is a whole different story ... what is interesting and related is size.

When the company decided to erase the image and changed bottles, they reduced the size ever so slightly.  How do I know, because I had 4 full bottles of Aunt Jemima I bought before they removed them from the stores.  Now, I buy the same company and put it in the original bottle ... except there is just slightly more room in the Aunt Jemima bottle than the new bottles sold in stores today.  Just slightly.  So after 50-60 bottles, maybe a few more ... they get 1 extra bottle.  They sell the new cleansed of racial issues for the same price or higher and less syrup and no one pays attention.

No time to stop and read the details! Just smokin'

      The following from Slate.com, Jacob Grier Feb 13, 2017.   A decade later, comprehensive smoking bans have proliferated globally. And now that the evidence has had time to accumulate, it’s also become clear that the extravagant promises made by anti-smoking groups—that implementing bans would bring about extraordinary improvements in cardiac health—never materialized. Newer, better studies with much larger sample sizes have found little to no correlation between smoking bans and short-term incidence of heart attacks, and certainly nothing remotely close to the 60 percent reduction that was claimed in Helena. The updated science debunks the alarmist fantasies that were used to sell smoking bans to the public, allowing for a more sober analysis suggesting that current restrictions on smoking are extreme from a risk-reduction standpoint.
