Grocery Shopping

Long ago, when people (usually women, or a husband and wife) would go shopping at the grocery store, they dressed up (a bit).  Did their hair, usually wore a skirt or dress, maybe coat or something to cover ... never pants or shorts.  Sort of like the following but the following is just a shot of one image at one moment in time, although I believe it represents the period reasonably well.

There was also a downside and while I could not find one showing how common it was, I did find one photo ...

People smoked in the store!!  Yes they did.  In the frozen food aisle.  In the produce area.  Everywhere and then they would throw the butts on the floor.  Yes sir.

The other day I was in the store.  No nicely dressed women or men, and no smoking, but I did find/see -

A husband and wife walking through the store with a very large Doberman.  About the size of the dog above.  He did not have any indication of being a support animal, nor in-training.  He was just massive. I would think the husband would have been the support.  The dog though.

Then I thought about it.  You can't say no to people now.  Not for anything.

It would be offensive.  It could be their emotional support animal.  Perhaps they need a therapist instead.

It would be insensitive.  Perhaps where they moved from, in their town, they all brought large animals into food establishments.

Someone would cry.  Someone would sue.

I am not telling you what store, nor where ---- but two workers at the store told me, at different times - they can't stop you from stealing things.  They can only watch.  And they don't call the police in most cases.

In fact, in some stores the security guards look for the kid who stole the bag of candy but should 2-3 males come in and take a lot more, the security guard will not step in.

You can't say no to anyone any more.  Except the workers get their hours cut because the company says it doesn't have the money to pay so many hours ... and this company owns a lot of grocery stores, as in a lot!  And that is the general policy ... here and in other cities!
